The 3rd Conference of Overseas Chinese Supporting the High-Quality Development of the Belt and Road, co-hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the Macao Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese took place in Macao. The event brought together nearly a thousand participants, including overseas Chinese leaders and youth representatives from over 80 countries and regions, as well as members from various sectors of Macao society. AAM President of General Assembly Ar.LEONG Chong In and President of AAM Board of Director AAM GA President Ar. LEONG Chong In and BD President Ar. CHOI Wan Sun was invited to attend the opening ceremony. The AAM board members and supervisors also attended to support the event.

“AAM Architectural Design Exhibition & Cross-Strait Architectural Design Awards Exhibition” took place at Rua de Pedro Nolaso da Silva no.24A-26. The “AAM Architectural Design Exhibition” aims to establish a platform for cultural exchange in architectural design, recognizing outstanding works by local architects and continuously advancing architectural technology and vision. The “Cross-Strait Architectural Design Awards Exhibition” showcased award-winning entries from the 2024 competition organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and co-organized by AAM fostering creative exchange and dialogue in architectural design across the two sides of the strait and beyond.

The “Design Charrette (2025): Heritage in Macao” was organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and co-organized by the Architects Association of Macau (AAM) and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) . The event focused on three key themes: exploring Macao’s UNESCO World Heritage architecture, learning about cultural heritage, and participating in an architectural design workshop. On the first day, through a walking-tour led by professors from the University of Saint Joseph in Macao, participants visited Macao’s World Heritage sites, where they closely observed architectural details and learned about their historical backgrounds. Participants examined heritage sites like the Ruins of St. Paul’s College, Na Tcha Temple, Old City Walls, company of Jesus Square and Mount Fortress, gaining an in-depth understanding of their cultural significance. They also compared these sites with historical buildings in Hong Kong, exploring how cultural heritage preservation can be integrated with innovative design. After the tour, participants visited the University of Saint Joseph and had group discussions with volunteer architects. Participants drew inspiration from cultural heritage to create innovative architectural design models in preparation for the following day’s workshop. On the second day, participants completed their design models and took part in a design competition, contending for various awards. The event concluded with an awards ceremony and closing ceremony. The Autodesk Hong Kong BIM Awards are organized by Autodesk annually to celebrate building industry professionals and educators who are helping to drive the transformation of the building industry through the usage of building information modelling (BIM), and who help shape the industry to evolve to a more efficient and sustainable era. The Architectures Association of Macau (AAM) was invited to be a supporting organization of BIM Awards 2025. AAM BD director Ar. Ryan LEONG attended the relevant activities.

The 2025 Architectural Society of China Annual Conference was held in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. The theme of the annual conference was “Urban Renewal ·Value Reconstruction”. The president of AAM Board of Director Ar. Christine CHOI, and Vice President Ar. Donna Wu were invited to attend the conference. Together with experts and scholars from the architecture field across the country, they discussed topics such as industry transformation and upgrading, urban renewal, design value reconstruction, and digital technology empowerment, aiming to promote the integration of urban and rural areas and coordinated regional development.

The “Seminar on the Overview of the Recent Development of Quantity Surveying in Macao” organized by the Construction Industry Development Concern Group (the Six Associations: AAM, AEM, AECEM, MABCD, MCA, APMCCM), was held at Macao Chamber of Commerce Ho Yin Memorial Hall. Professional experts were invited to deliver lectures, introducing industry development trends and providing a platform for participants to exchange insights on quantity surveying, thereby fostering the cultivation of related professional technicians in Macao.

The 5th Asia Pacific Intelligent Green Building Alliance Conference aims to promote academic, technological, and practical exchanges and cooperation in the intelligence and greening of buildings across the Asia-Pacific region. The event organizer emphasized the city’s commitment to intelligent and green building development. The innovative technologies and case studies presented during the event mark the transition of intelligent green buildings from conceptual exploration to the practical phase of scalable sustainable development.AAM BD President Ar. The Macao Construction Industry Development Concern Group organized the “2025 Shanghai Study and Exchange Delegation of the Macao Construction Engineering Sector”, which departed for a visit to Shanghai. The activities included meetings with the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Shanghai Municipal Committee, attendance at the Global Engineering Congress held at the Shanghai World Expo Center, visits to major engineering projects, and gaining insights into the nation’s latest developments and achievements in construction technology.AAM GA president LEONG Chong In, President of the Fellow Members Council Carlos Marreiros, BD Director Jimmy WARDHAN, and SB Director TOU Kit wan joined into the delegation.

The “2nd Forum of Portuguese Speaking Engineers”, jointly organized by the Macau Institute of Engineers and the Low Carbon Green Hotel Development Alliance, was successfully held at MGM COTAI. Centered around the theme of “Building a Sustainable Future through Green and Eco-Friendly Development,” the forum brought together nearly 80 engineering experts from Portugal, Mainland China, Macao, and Hong Kong for in-depth discussions across a diverse range of topics. The forum explored several key areas, including water security, environmental architecture, agricultural innovation, and large-scale infrastructure. AAM BD Vice-President Ar.Nuno SOARES shared insights on integrating sustainability into architectural design, emphasizing balance of natural resources and urban development.

After Super Typhoon Ragasa pummeled Macao, AAM volunteer team joined the government’s clean up effort, including removing rubbish, fallen trees and other debris caused by the tropical cyclone, to help the city to return to normal as soon as possible.

The “Academic Forum on Geospatial Technology Empowering the Conservation and Inheritance of Cultural Heritage” was successfully held in Macao and Zhuhai from September 4 to 7, 2025. The forum was jointly organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Arts of Macau University of Science and Technology and the Key Scientific Research Base of National Cultural Heritage Administration (Tsinghua University). It brought together experts and scholars from the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao. AAM GA President LEONG Chon In Ben was invited to attend the forum. This forum focused on core topics such as the digital preservation of cultural heritage, the intelligent preservation of historical towns and villages, spatial information technology in heritage condition assessment, and the construction of digital twin platforms for heritage conservation. Twelve thematic academic reports were presented. Considering the 20th anniversary of Macao’s Historic Centre’s UNESCO World Heritage inscription, the forum organized participants to visit its iconic heritage sites. such as the Mandarin’s House, the Ruins of St. Paul’s College and so on, learning from Macao’s experience in protecting “living heritage”. Subsequently, some participants traveled to the Zhuhai Institute of Urban Planning & Design, where they visited the Zhuhai Planning Science and Technology Innovation Center. This academic seminar and field visit between Macao and Zhuhai not only deepened the consensus on the application of spatial information technology and emerging AI technology in the field of cultural heritage, but also built a valuable platform for exchange between the protection of historical heritage and the construction of modern cities, jointly contributing wisdom and strength to the building of a culturally strong nation.

The Macao Construction Industry Development Concern Group (the Six Associations) - Architects Association of Macau(AAM), The Macau Institution of Engineers (AEM), Association of Macau Engineering Consultant Companies(AECEM), Macao Association Building Contractors and Developers(MABCD), Macau Construction Association(MAC), Macau Construction Machinery Engineering Association(APMCCM) - held the “2024 Macau Quantity Surveying Technician Practice Recommendation Certificate Conferment Ceremony and Dinner” at the Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Center. The event celebrated and acknowledged the successful emergence of a new cohort of professionals. That evening, the Secretary for Transport and Public Works of Macau, TAM Vai Man attended the ceremony in person, demonstrating the government’s emphasis on industry talent development. Witnessed by the attendees, the President of the Public Works Bureau (DSOP), LAM Wai Hou, presented the Practice Recommendation Certificates to the trainees who had successfully completed their studies, marking their official acquisition of the industry-recognized professional qualification. Since 2020, the Six Associations has continuously organized the “Macau Quantity Surveying Technician” course, aiming to provide upskilling pathways for industry practitioners and help them seize broader career development opportunities. There were 38 eligible trainees enrolled in this course. After systematic learning and rigorous assessment, 25 trainees passed successfully and were awarded the Practice Recommendation Certificates.

The “Little Silver Ball Welcomes National Games & May Fourth Youth Table Tennis Team Invitational”, jointly organized by the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau and the Youth Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, took place successfully at the Macao East Asian Games Dome. The Architects Association of Macau was honored to participate as an invited guest team in this annual sporting event. The competition this year attracted 24 teams from various sectors across Macao, with nearly 200 young athletes showcasing their skills. The AAM, while not reaching the podium, demonstrated spirited teamwork and contributed to fostering cross-industry camaraderie through sports.

In order to further enhance members’ awareness of national security and deepen their understanding of the holistic approach to national security, the Architects Association of Macau organized a visit for its members to the “2025 Exhibition for National Security Education”. The exhibition was hosted by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau. Participants included the President of the General Assembly, LEONG Chong In; the President of the Board of Directors, CHOI Wan Sun; Vice President WU Kim Kam; and other board members. The event aimed to explore the close relationship between national security and urban development from the perspective of the architectural profession, fulfilling the industry’s social responsibilities. Under the theme of “Balancing Development and Security,” the exhibition provided a comprehensive overview of the 16 key areas covered by the national security system through graphics, multimedia interactions, and case studies. The representatives from the association focused on topics closely related to the architectural industry, such as “resource security,” “ecological security,” and “urban resilience building.” They also engaged in discussions on how to integrate national security concepts into Macao’s urban planning. The Architects Association of Macau will continue to promote the alignment of the industry with national development strategies, contributing professional expertise to safeguarding national security and ensuring the steady and long-term success of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.

The Macao SAR Government hosted the 2025 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2025MIECF), a three-day event, at Cotai Expo, The Venetian Macao. On the second day of the event, three Green Forum sessions were arranged, focusing on topics including green transition, technological innovation, and environmental exchanges and co-operation in the Pan-Pearl River Delta (Pan-PRD) region.Members of the Architects Association of Macau including GA President LEONG Chong In, BD President CHOI Wan Sun, and BD Vice President WU Kim Kam, attended the forum and exhibition.

To thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the National “Two Sessions”, the Macao Construction Industry Development Concern Group (the Six Associations: AAM, AEM, AECEM, MABCD, MCA and APMCCM), a meeting to convey the spirit of the “Two Sessions” (the Third Session of the 14th National People’s Congress and the Third Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in 2025) was held at the premises of the Macau Construction and Property Development Chamber of Commerce. The event invited deputy to the National People’s Congress Mr. CHUI Sai Peng and the CPPCC National Committee Mr. MOK Chi Wai as keynote speakers, with Mr. LEONG Chong In, a member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, serving as the moderator. Attendees included leaders and industry representatives such as Ms. CHOI Wan Sun, President of the Board of Directors of the Architects Association of Macau; Mr. CHUM Pak Tak, President of the Board of the Macao Association Building Contractors and Developers; Mr. WU Chou Kit, President of the Macau Institution of Engineers; Mr. CHAN Mun Fong, Director of the Association of Macau Engineering Consultant Companies; Mr. LO Kai Jone, Honorary President of the Macau Construction Association; and Mr. XIAO Dongwen, President of the Association of Macau Engineering Consultant Companies.
The two keynote speakers stated that this year requires the high-quality completion of the goals set out in the 14th Five-Year Plan, laying a solid foundation for a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan. It also marks the beginning of the second phase of development goals for the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. They encouraged all colleagues attending the sharing session to deeply understand the General Secretary XI Jinping’s call for Macao to further enhance its “international influence” and urged everyone to contribute to promoting the integrated development of Hengqin and Macao and to better integrate Macao into the nation’s overall development strategy!
Through this meeting to convey the spirit of the “Two Sessions,” the construction industry can accurately understand major national policies and their significance for Macao’s future development.
